한국 국제 협력단의 국제 개발 지원 활동에 대해 이야기해 주세요.

한국은 과거 개발 도상국 시절에 여러 나가의 원조를 받았다. 이제 한국은 경제 수준이 많이 좋아져서 해외 원조를 하는 국가로 성장했다. 제3세계 국가들에 대한 지원은 크게 국가 지원과 민간 지원으로 나누어진다. 수많은 민간 단체와 기관들이 자발적으로 해외 원조에 동참하고 있다. 국가 차원의 지원중에는 한국 국제 협력단(KOICA)을 통한 지원이 가장 대표적이다. 국가 예산을 지원받는 KOICA를 통해 수많은 한국 봉사 단원들이 해외 각지에서 활동하고 있다. 머나먼 여러 나라에서, 질병이나 외로움과 싸워 가며, 현지인들을 지원하고 있다. 머나먼 여러 나라에서, 질병이나 외로움과 싸워 가며, 현지인들을 지원하고 있다. 활동 분야는 외료, 교육, 주거 환경, 복지 행정, 관광 등에 대한 지원을 아우르고 있다. 또한, 한류 붐을 타고 한국어를 배우고 싶어 하는 수요가 많아서, 한국어나 태권도를 가르치는 봉사 활동을 하는 단원들도 많다.

As a developing country, Korea received aid from many other nations in the past. Now, Korea's economy has grown by leaps and bounds, and it offers overseas aid. Roughly speaking, support for 3rd world countries can be divided into state-level support and civilian support. Many civilian groups and institutions are taking part in overseas support of their own accord. Support through KOICA is chief among the support on a national level. Many Korean volunteers are active in all corners of the world through KOICA, which receives national funding. They support locals in various far-off countries, fighting disease and loneliness. Their activities include medical, educational, housing, welfare and tourism support. Also, many people want to learn Korean these days, riding the wave of the Hallyu boom. That's why many volunteers also teach Korean or taekwondo.

Hallyu boom 한류 봄

 
간혹 Hallyu Korean Wave 등의 표현을 사용하는 경우가 있는데, 이는 '한류'의 의미를 반복하는 어감이 있다. Hallyu도 이제는 국제적으로 잘 알려진 단어이기 때문에, 추가적인 설명이 필요한 상황이 아니라면 Hally라고만 말해도 될 것이다.

 예) I realized how huge the Hallyu boom was when I traveled to Japan. (일본에 여행을 가서 한류 붐이 얼마나 거대한지 실감했다.)
