In the waters between Korea and Japan, there is an island named Dokdo. The island has great geopolitical importance. It comes into play with military issues, as well as marine operations in nearby waters. It is sovereign territory that Korean has governed over for a long time. Historically, it is marked as Korean territory in various records. Korean civilians are living on Dokdo to this day, and the Korean Coast Guard are also stationed there. However, Japan is claiming ownership of Dokdo, and continuously making provocations. Its foreign office is parroting the claim, and even some school textbooks erroneously claim that Dokdo is Japanese. This Japanese claim over Dokdo is a point of contention between the two countries. Japan is attempting to make an issue of it, to gain global acceptance. The Korean government continues to strongly object to Japan's claims, and to make it known that Dokdo belongs to Korea.

이 표현은 repeat와는 의미가 조금 다르다. 앵무새(parrot)가 사람의 말을 이해하거나 생각하며 따라서 하는 것이 아닌 것처럼, 아무런 생각이나 의미 없이 어떤 말을 흉내만 내는 것을 parrot이라고 한다.
예) I practice my pronunciation by repeating after my teacher. (나는 선생님의 말을 따라 하며 발음을 연습한다.)
