대힌민국 국민의 절반 이상이 아파트에 산다. 최근 몇 년간 서울과 인근 수도권의 집값이 가파르게 올랐다. 그 이유는 아파트를 구매하는 사람이 늘고 있기 때문이다. 많은 사람들이 무리하게 빚을 내서 아파트를 구매하기도 했다. 어떤 사람들은 자산 증식의 수단으로 아파트를 구매했다. 심지어 지방에 사는 사람들도 서울의 아파트를 구매했고, 이는 집값 상승을 더욱 부추겼다.

Over half of Korean people live in apartments. In Seoul and the capital area, housing prices have risen sharply in recent years. This is because the number of people buying apartments is rising. Many people got loans excessively to buy apartments. Some bought apartments to increase their assets. Even people in other areas bought Seoul apartments, which sped up the increase in housing costs.

아파트 가격이 천정부지로 치솟으면서, 많은 젊은 사람들이 내 집 마련에 어려움을 겪고 있다. 평섕을 벌어서 모아도 아파트 하나를 가기가 힘들 정도다, 반면, 아파트가 여러 채인 사람들은 계속해서 지산이 늘어나서, 빈익빈 부익부의 익순환이 발생하고 있다. 이러한 사회 문제를 해결하기 위해 정부가 부동산 정책들을 내놓고 있다. 다주택 보유자의 세금 인상, 주택 담보 대출의 규정 강화 등이 대표적인 정책들이다.

As apartment prices rise out of control, many young people are having a tough time buying a home. Even scrimping and saving for a lifetime might not be enough to buy an apartment. Meanwhile, people with several apartments are expanding their wealth. It's a vicious cycle of the wealthy getting wealthier, and the poor getting poorer. The government is implementing real-estate policies to solve this social issue. Examples include tax hikes for multiple-home owners and stronger rules for taking out a mortgage.
